Ensure you have a healthy backlog at all times and regular product backlog refinements. The rule of thumb for a healthy backlog is a minimum of 2 sprints worth of product backlog items ready to be worked. Failing to maintain a healthy backlog results in working on lower value stories because they are ready, starting a sprint without enough committed stories and even having developers staying idle.
